The L.A. Connection Comedy Theatre has taught and staged improv since 1977, making it one of the oldest comedy institutions in the county, famous along the way for its Mock movie-dubbing shows and as an early stage for generations of comics. Founder Kent Skov still runs it from Magnolia Park in Burbank.
The model is distinctive: rather than a long paid class ladder, LA Connection runs monthly open auditions (ages 5 and up, nothing prepared) that place performers into kids, teens, or adult repertory groups by skill, and rep members perform weekly, splitting a quarter of the box office. Saturday is the showcase: a ladder of shows from the noon Kids Comedy Improv through teen and rookie sets to the 9:30 all-stars, every ticket $10. A four-week adult intro class requires no audition, kids can simply try a rehearsal, and private improv coaching is available.
Since 2025 the theater also hosts ComedySportz LA as a visiting production, concentrating a lot of Burbank's improv under one roof. Class pricing is unpublished, so call. For families who want performance reps early and often at pocket-money prices, nothing else in this directory is structured quite like it.
