Entry points differ in character. Improv level one assumes nothing and is the least intimidating room in the city. Foundational technique classes teach script analysis and playable action before any scene work. Introductory on-camera classes get you comfortable with a lens early. Some studios run standalone beginner courses; others place newcomers into a fundamentals section that feeds their ongoing classes.
Who it suits
People who have never trained, people returning after years away, and people who have performed but never studied. All three are common and all three are served by different first classes.

How to compare them
Ask what happens after the beginner class, because the honest answer tells you whether the school has a path or just an entry product. Ask whether you can audit. Be wary of a first class that costs a great deal or locks you into a long commitment before you know whether the teacher suits you: starting somewhere reasonable and moving is normal and costs less than choosing wrong at length.
