Impro Theatre

Impro Theatre performs entire full-length plays with no script, Tennessee Williams Unscripted, Jane Austen Unscripted, Twilight Zone Unscripted, and its school teaches the craft that makes that possible. Founded in 1988 as Los Angeles Theatresports on Keith Johnstone's format, the nonprofit company now anchors narrative long-form improv on the West Coast from its Los Feliz studio on Vermont Avenue.

Training is built on the C.O.R.E. program, character, objective, relationship, environment, in six and twelve-week classes with published prices (a six-week combined C.O.R.E. runs $240), stacking toward genre classes, an invitation-only performance lab, and studio ensembles. A Saturday Improv Playground takes drop-ins at $40, and online narrative programs serve remote students. Faculty are company members who perform this work on stages from The Broad to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

This is improv as acting training rather than comedy sport: scene work, emotional truth, and story, which is why plenty of dramatic actors train here alongside improvisers.
