Sharon Chatten's teaching lineage is about as deep as the American Method gets: a lifetime member of The Actors Studio since 1975, a former teacher at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, faculty for Warren Robertson and Larry Moss, and a participant in the founding seasons of the Sundance Film Institute at Robert Redford's invitation. She ran her studio in New York through the 1980s before relocating it to Los Angeles in 1988.
The current studio runs ongoing Zoom scene study twice a week, working television, film, and contemporary play scenes with audition and self-tape notes built in, plus a dedicated Zoom Method relaxation and sensory class teaching the complete sensory series, a rarity offered online. In-person LA scene study, private coaching, and self-taping services round it out, with co-teacher Micki Caruso-McGinnis bringing a talent manager's perspective. The studio's In Conversation series has hosted Ben Stiller, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Josh Peck.
Everything runs through email: no published address, phone, or pricing, and the site's dated content trails a couple of years behind, so confirm current sessions when you write. For classical Method sensory training with a direct Strasberg-line teacher, especially remotely, the options list is short and this is on it.
Techniques taught
- Method (Strasberg): Lee Strasberg's Method: affective memory, relaxation, and sense work developed from Stanislavski's early system.
- Stanislavski: The root system of modern actor training: objectives, actions, and given circumstances.
