New to this approach? The LA Actor Guide explains what Eclectic / multi-technique actually is, where it came from, and who it suits, in plain language. This page lists the LA schools that teach it.

What this training is

In practice this means a teacher who will use repetition with one actor, imagination work with another, and pure script analysis with a third, based on what that actor is doing. Most working LA studios operate this way. It is the honest description of a large part of the market, and it is listed here as its own category rather than being forced under a technique label the studio does not actually claim.

Who it suits

Actors who do not yet know which approach suits them, actors who have hit a wall inside one system, and working actors who want practical results rather than allegiance to a school of thought.

What these listings show

Counted from the verified records on this page when the site was last built, on 2026-08-15.

  • Published pricing. 45 of 61 publish enough pricing to place them in a band: $ (17), $$ (19), $$$ (3), $$$$ (6). The other 16 do not publish rates, so you have to ask.
  • Audit or trial. 17 of these 61 offer an audit or a trial class, which is the cheapest way to judge a teacher before committing.
  • Audition required. 10 require an audition or placement before you can enroll, so plan for a step before the first class.
  • Levels. 49 accept complete beginners and 48 run advanced work (80% and 79% of this list).
  • Online options. 36 of 61 offer an online format as well as in person.
  • Private coaching. 36 also offer one-to-one coaching alongside classes.
  • Young actors. 31 of these serve kids or teens as well as adults.
  • Where they are. Concentrated in North Hollywood and Studio City (17), Santa Monica and the Westside (9), Hollywood and Mid-City (9), across 10 areas of Los Angeles in total.
  • How established. 38 publish a founding year, the earliest 1911 and the most recent 2013.

How to compare them

The risk with an eclectic studio is a curriculum that is merely unsystematic, so ask the teacher to describe how they decide what to use. A good eclectic teacher answers that question easily and specifically. Ask what they trained in themselves, since eclectic practice built on deep training in one or two systems is different from eclectic practice built on none.
